Building in Chapters

Careers make more sense in retrospect than they do while we are living them. From a distance, the line looks intentional. Up close, it is a collection of questions, useful accidents, and decisions made with incomplete information.
Working in data science taught me to respect evidence. Working on products taught me that evidence still needs judgment. Building a company has added another lesson: judgment has a clock attached to it. You decide with what you know, then stay awake enough to revise the decision when reality answers.
I used to think a new chapter had to invalidate the one before it. Now I see the opposite. The earlier work becomes material. A model that never shipped teaches you about adoption. A project that went sideways teaches you where communication becomes architecture. Even the skills you no longer use directly change how you approach the work in front of you.
The thread is not a job title. It is a way of seeing problems, choosing which ones deserve years, and becoming a little more honest about what good work requires.
